Amelia's Angel - First Walk
In March 2019, we participated in our first walk.
It was an amazing day, filled with fun and laughter.
We were lucky enough to have my employer BOQ be a corpoate sponsor, with a stall of games with prizes.
Looking forward to doing it all again this year, for such a cause - Come Join Us!
Amelia's Angels - Story
This is Amelia's story.
In July 2018, Amelia presented with a viral vomiting bug and was extremely sluggish. My husband and I thought it would be best to have checked out and make sure she was not dehydrated.
We went to PCH late of Friday night, she was originally diagnosed with fluid on the lungs as was admitted in the early hours of Saturday. On Monday, her condition was not improving and further images were requested. It was during these test's that her condition became severe and was intubated and admitted to ICU.
On Monday night, my husband and I were told that Amelia, who was two at the time, had cancer. Cancer called Wilms Tumour. Wilms Tumour commonly presents in ages 2 through to 5 and originates in the kidney/s. At time of diagnosis, the tumour was present in both kidneys, liver and her heart. We were told we had to start chemotherapy immediately.
Over the next nine months, Amelia endured multiple ICU visits, numerous surgeries, weekly chemotherapy and 10 rounds of radiotherapy. Amelia also celebrated her third birthday and her younger brothers first birthday.
To this day, Amelia's strength, bravery and her amazing "Light up a room" smile is my inspiration to promote the amazing staff at Perth Children’s Hospital that saved our little girl.
We are overjoyed that we now say, our daughter Amelia's is now in Remission
